At the General Election in Meriden on 5th May 2005, 46503 votes were cast (approximately 60% of the total number of eligible voters) with the following result:

Caroline Spelman (Conservative): 22416 votes (+0.5%).

Jim Brown (Labour): 15407 votes (-6.1%).

William Laitinen (Liberal Democrat): 7113 votes (+4.3%).

Denis Brookes (UK Independence Party): 1567 votes (+1.4%).
